RABID BAT FOUND INSIDE HOUSE IN LANTZVILLE!
A primarily indoor only cat who only goes outside with the owner on a leash was found playing with a live bat inside her house in Lantzville. The bat tested POSITIVE for RABIES.
The cat was NOT vaccinated and now the owner must decide whether to euthanize the cat or quarantine it for six months. All people in contact with the cat are now being vaccinated for rabies.
iF the cat had been vaccinated then that would have been the end of it. No worries for the owner unless they touched the bat and the cat would have been free to live its life.
Rabies is 100% FATAL and is not to be taken lightly. ALL pets should be vaccinated for rabies!
